A Coventry man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison at Warwick Crown Court after being convicted of a series of historical sexual offences against two young girls and a woman.

Jawhir Kasir, 47, of no fixed address, was convicted of seven sexual offences, including attempted rape, following a crown court trial earlier this year. The offences took place over a four-year period, with Kasir sexually assaulting two girls between 2006 and 2008 before attempting to rape a third woman in 2010.

A police investigation was initiated after all three victims reported the abuse last year. Investigating officers conducted Video Recorded Interviews with the women to secure their evidence, allowing the recorded testimony to be played directly to the jury during the trial rather than requiring the witnesses to deliver their evidence in person.

Following the compilation of the video evidence, officers arrested Kasir on 26 November last year at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of multiple sexual offences. He was subsequently charged and remanded ahead of his trial and ultimate sentencing on 22 September.
