Former Green Councillor Charged With Assault on Police Appears in Court

Former Green Party councillor Siobhan Harper-Nunes has appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on charges of assaults on emergency workers.

During the brief court appearance, the defendant spoke only to confirm her name and her address on Monument Road, while represented by solicitor Georgina Ellis.  

District Judge Michelle Smith adjourned the proceedings until September 17 following a request from her defense to allow time to review CCTV footage relating to the case. Harper-Nunes was granted unconditional bail. 

The 66-year-old local politician, who represents the Ladywood ward, faces allegations stemming from an altercation that took place on August 6.

Officers were called to reports of disorder outside Jungle Shisha Lounge in Ladywood, near the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road, at approximately 5pm.

Harper-Nunes has been formally charged with assaulting five people, specifically including three police officers, a member of police staff, and a member of the public.
