Birmingham Councillor Denies Assaulting Three Police Officers
Green councillor Siobhan Harper-Nunes faces a trial over alleged assaults involving police officers, a police staff member & a member of the public.
A Birmingham councillor accused of assaulting three police officers, a member of police staff and a member of the public will stand trial after denying the charges.
Siobhan Harper-Nunes, 66, pleaded not guilty at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court to three counts of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty and further assault charges.
The charges relate to an incident on August 6 outside Jungle Shisha Lounge, on the Ladywood/North Edgbaston boundary. Police were called to the junction of Monument Road and Hagley Road at around 5pm.
Harper-Nunes, of Monument Road, Birmingham, was charged by West Midlands Police in August.
District Judge Michelle Smith listed a day-and-a-half trial for July 19 and 20, 2027.
Harper-Nunes was bailed unconditionally and remains at liberty pending the trial.
She was elected as a Green Party councillor for Ladywood in May but was subsequently suspended by the party and is now listed as an independent councillor by Birmingham City Council.
