Dangerous Predator Najat Ismail Jailed For 20 Years After Raping Two Women A Decade Apart
Dangerous predator Najat Ismail, 53, has been handed a 25-year extended sentence at Cardiff Crown Court after being convicted of 12 counts of rape.
A serial rapist described as a dangerous predator by senior detectives has been handed a 25-year extended sentence at Cardiff Crown Court for a series of sexual assaults committed against two women across a ten-year span.
Najat Ismail, 53, of Grangetown, appeared in the dock on August 4 to be sentenced to 20 years in prison with a further five years on extended licence due to the extreme gravity of his offending.
The severe punishment follows the conclusion of two separate trials at the court, during which juries convicted him of a total of 12 counts of rape. In addition to the extended custodial term, the presiding judge made Ismail the subject of restraining orders in relation to both victims to prevent any future contact.
The court heard that Ismail’s convictions were secured following two distinct legal proceedings earlier this year. The defendant was first found guilty of three counts of rape on April 20, 2026 following his first trial.

Weeks later, on May 7, 2026, a second jury delivered guilty verdicts on a further nine counts of rape. The two cases laid bare a harrowing history of sexual violence, revealing that Ismail had repeatedly targeted and abused two separate women over the course of a decade.
During the court proceedings, details were disclosed regarding the devastating impact of Ismail's actions on his first victim, whom he raped on nine separate occasions.
The court heard that the woman cried and pleaded with her attacker during the assaults, but he ignored her distress and continued the abuse. In victim impact statements highlighted to the court, it was revealed that she continues to endure constant flashbacks to the attacks.
The ongoing psychological trauma has left her unable to trust new people, forcing her to rely on home food deliveries to avoid basic face-to-face interactions with others.

The court was told that the second victim was similarly left with profound emotional scars following her ordeal at Ismail's hands. She described how the trauma forced her to change employment and left her living continuously in a state of fear and survival mode.
Recognising the enduring threat posed by the defendant, the court imposed restraining orders covering both survivors alongside the lengthy custodial term.
Speaking after the sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, Detective Chief Inspector Geraint Higgins of South Wales Police paid tribute to the bravery of the two women.
DCI Higgins stated that Ismail is a dangerous predator and expressed his gratitude to the victims for displaying immense courage and strength in reporting the defendant’s actions to the police, which ultimately enabled investigators to secure the convictions.

The senior officer added that he hoped the substantial prison sentence handed down by the court would bring both survivors some degree of comfort.
South Wales Police emphasized that law enforcement agencies never underestimate how difficult it is for survivors of sexual abuse to speak out and navigate the legal system.
The force stated that cases such as Ismail's serve as reassurance to the public that victims who come forward will be listened to, treated with dignity and respect, and fully supported by officers throughout the entire judicial process.
Ismail was remanded straight into custody from the dock to begin serving his 20-year prison sentence before his five-year extended licence period commences.
