Attempted Rapist Jailed for Nine Years After Vulnerable Woman Escapes Northampton Attack

A 41-year-old predator who targeted a vulnerable woman inside a Northampton residence has been handed a nine-year extended sentence following a conviction for attempted rape.

Bishan Shiekh launched the traumatic assault on November 8, 2025, after approaching the victim within the property.

The woman managed to break free from Shiekh during the attack and escaped to safety before notifying Northamptonshire Police.  

Following his immediate arrest and subsequent charge on a single count of attempted rape, Shiekh was forced to stand trial at Northampton Crown Court.

The five-day court proceedings commenced on April 28 this year, culminating in the jury returning a unanimous guilty verdict.

Shiekh was remanded in custody and returned to the same court for sentencing on July 10, where he was ordered to serve seven years in prison alongside a further two years on extended licence.  

Detective Sergeant Liz Jeeves, of Northamptonshire Police’s specialist SOLAR Team, paid tribute to the victim’s fortitude and highlighted the thorough work of the investigation team, led by DC Adam Smart.

Detective Sergeant Jeeves noted that the victim endured a frightening and harrowing ordeal, but demonstrated exceptional bravery from the initial investigation through to the conclusion of the trial, ensuring Shiekh faced justice for his crimes.

Reaffirming that confronting violence against women and girls is a paramount focus for Northamptonshire Police, Detective Sergeant Jeeves emphasized that officers will rigorously investigate reports of sexual violence, support survivors, and relentlessly pursue perpetrators to secure convictions.
