Derby Rapist Jailed for 16 Years After Campaign of Sexual Abuse & Violent Assaults Against Two Women
Sajid Bashir, 27, has been sentenced to a 16-year extended term after being convicted of rape, non-fatal strangulation, and sexual assault against two women in Derby.
A 27-year-old Derby man has been jailed for 12 years with an additional four-year extended licence period after subjecting two women to a campaign of violence, non-fatal strangulation, and sexual abuse. Sajid Bashir, of Iron Gate, Derby, appeared for sentencing after being convicted of rape, non-fatal strangulation, stalking involving serious alarm or distress, and controlling and coercive behaviour against a first victim, alongside admitting further charges of assault and strangulation against a second woman. Passing sentence, the court imposed a total extended sentence of 16 years, classifying Bashir as a dangerous offender following a pattern of domestic abuse and violent behaviour committed while under judicial supervision.
The court heard that police investigations began in 2023 when the first victim reported that Bashir had subjected her to coercive control, physical assaults involving kicking and punching, and sustained non-fatal strangulation that rendered her unconscious. Investigative findings established that Bashir also subjected the woman to sexual assault and rape during the course of the abuse. While on police bail for those initial allegations, Bashir targeted a second woman in 2025, holding her against her will, threatening her with a bladed weapon, punching her in the face, and again using non-fatal strangulation until she lost consciousness. Following the second report, Bashir was remanded in custody ahead of trial.
Appearing in connection with both matters, Bashir pleaded guilty to the assault and strangulation charges relating to the 2025 incident, while standing trial for the 2023 offences, where a jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts across all counts. Alongside the custodial sentence, the court issued indefinite restraining orders prohibiting Bashir from contacting either victim directly or indirectly. The case was brought to conclusion following joint investigations by Derbyshire Constabulary detectives, with senior officers noting that Bashir’s convictions reflected a persistent pattern of serious violent and sexual offending against women. Bashir will serve at least two-thirds of his 12-year custodial term before becoming eligible to apply for parole, followed by the four-year extended licence period upon release.
