A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to five years and seven months’ imprisonment for a rape committed in central London.
Hassan Alsarout, born 23 December 2003, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 21 April, to receive his sentence.
The defendant, a Brazilian national of no fixed abode, had previously entered a guilty plea to a single count of rape at the same court on 20 February.
The court heard that the offence took place in a secluded area of Euston Road during the early hours of 9 October 2025.

Metropolitan Police detectives launched a nationwide manhunt after digital records and CCTV analysis established that the defendant had fled the capital for the West Midlands immediately following the attack.
Officers successfully located and arrested Alsarout at an address in Coventry on 10 October 2025, less than 24 hours after the offence was reported.
Upon his apprehension, investigators discovered that the defendant had already made arrangements to flee the United Kingdom for Denmark the following day.
The investigation further revealed that Alsarout had attempted to destroy forensic evidence by washing his clothing immediately after the assault.

The victim provided a detailed account to specialist officers, allowing for the rapid identification of the suspect through a trawl of local surveillance footage.
In addition to his custodial term, Alsarout has been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
The court was informed that the defendant will be subject to deportation from the United Kingdom upon the conclusion of his prison sentence.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley confirmed that the absolute urgency of the investigation prevented the defendant from evading justice.

The Metropolitan Police stated that proactive efforts to tackle violence against women and girls remain a priority, with specialist teams providing support throughout the proceedings.
The sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court marks the final disposal of the case following the defendant's admission of guilt.
