Waheed Amodu Jailed: 27 Months for Didcot Domestic Abuse

A 23-year-old man has been jailed for more than two years at Oxford Crown Court following a series of violent attacks against a former partner.

Waheed Amodu, of Diamond Drive, Didcot, was sentenced on 2 April to a custodial term of 27 months.

The defendant entered guilty pleas to charges including intentional strangulation, assault by beating, and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

The court heard that the offences took place in Didcot during December 2025.

The prosecution detailed how Amodu subjected the victim to physical assaults and sustained violent outbursts throughout their relationship.

Legal records indicate that the defendant’s conduct met the criminal threshold for controlling and coercive behaviour within a domestic setting.

Sentencing judge Nigel Daly noted the severity of the offences, specifically highlighting the aggravating factor of violence committed within an intimate relationship.

The judge remarked that the custodial sentence was necessary to reflect the gravity of the physical harm and the psychological control exerted by the defendant.

Amodu will serve at least half of his sentence in custody before being eligible for release on licence under the supervision of the National Probation Service.

The court also imposed standard post-release conditions to manage the risk of further domestic offending.

Judge Daly expressed the hope that the defendant would utilise his time in prison to address the underlying issues related to his violent conduct.
