A Birmingham man has been jailed for 18 years after admitting the repeated rape of a young boy and possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.
Mohammed Ali, 23, of Onisbury Road, Handsworth, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 27 November to eight counts of rape—four against a child under 13—and three counts of distributing indecent images.
The prolonged abuse ended only when the victim disclosed the offences, triggering Ali’s arrest.
Officers recovered 443 illegal images and videos from his phone, 250 rated category A, the most serious classification.
The judge imposed 12 years in custody followed by a six-year extended licence, citing the need for prolonged public protection.
Detective Constable Georgia Taylor, from West Midlands Police Child Abuse Investigation team, praised the boy’s courage in reporting the crimes, enabling a sensitive yet decisive inquiry.
Victims of sexual assault retain lifelong anonymity under UK law, a measure intended to encourage disclosure.
The guilty pleas spared the complainant a trial while the volume and severity of both the contact offences and the image cache ensured a substantial sentence.
Digital forensics again proved critical, with police reiterating that anyone with concerns about child exploitation should contact them or supporting agencies without delay.
Ali will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
