🔴 WESTON MURDER: TEEN CHARGED OVER DEATH OF NINE-YEAR-OLD
A fifteen-year-old boy has appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of nine-year-old Aria Thorpe, who was found fatally stabbed at her home in Weston-super-Mare.
The teenager, whose identity is protected by reporting restrictions due to his age, stood in the dock at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 17 December. He spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth during the brief procedural hearing.
The youth is accused of murdering Aria Thorpe on Monday, 15 December. Emergency services were dispatched to a residential address in Lime Close, in the Mead Vale area of the town, shortly before 18:10hrs following reports of a serious incident. Despite the immediate intervention of paramedics and police, the nine-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene having sustained a single stab wound.
The defendant was remanded into youth detention accommodation by the presiding magistrates. He is scheduled to appear next at Bristol Crown Court on Friday, 19 December, where the case will be managed by a senior judge.
Avon and Somerset Police, who launched a murder inquiry immediately following the discovery, confirmed the suspect was arrested in the nearby area of Worle a short time after the incident. A forensic cordon has remained in place around the property in Lime Close as specialist crime scene investigators continue their examination of the location.
Superintendent Jen Appleford, addressing the media outside the police station, acknowledged the "profound sense of loss" felt across the community. She stated: "This remains an incredibly difficult time for Aria's family, who we continue to support and update around our investigation. The tragic loss of such a young girl has caused a huge amount of shock and upset."
Local residents have begun placing floral tributes and toys near the scene in memory of the victim, who had celebrated her ninth birthday just two weeks prior to her death.
