Misogynist Student Doctor Jailed for Rape of Two Women

A student doctor who treated women as disposable commodities for his sexual pleasure has been jailed for 18 years after being convicted of raping two victims in Devon and Cornwall.

Chris Clark, 32, of Battersea Park Road in London was found guilty of two counts of rape following a trial at Truro Crown Court.

A judge branded the defendant a misogynist and a continuing danger to women as he handed down an extended determinate sentence on Friday.

The court heard that Clark attacked his first victim in September 2022 after inviting her back to his room at a Travelodge in Torquay.

In a separate attack in June 2025 he raped a second woman at his former home address in Truro despite her repeatedly telling him no.

Sentencing the 32-year-old the judge stated that Clark posed a significant risk of committing further serious sexual offences and warned that the danger to the public would become imminent once he formed a new relationship following his release.

Addressing the defendant directly the judge said he was controlling, hypocritical about fidelity and obsessed with sexual activity.

The judge told Clark he possessed a streak of misogyny which informed the way he behaved with women before concluding that standard licence conditions would be insufficient to protect young women from him.

A pre-sentence report presented to the court assessed the student doctor as presenting a high risk of serious harm to the public and particularly to female partners.

The probation assessment concluded that any reduction in his risk profile during his time in custody would solely be the result of external controls rather than a genuine change in his underlying behaviour.

The court heard that the impact on his victims had been profound with one woman suffering severe psychological harm and physical injuries during her ordeal.

Clark was handed an extended determinate sentence of 18 years for the Torquay attack comprising 14 years in custody and a four-year extended licence period.

He will be required to serve at least two-thirds of the custodial term before he can be considered for release by the Parole Board.

A concurrent five-year prison sentence was imposed for the second rape in Truro and the defendant will remain subject to lifetime sex offender registration requirements.

Speaking after the sentencing hearing Detective Constable Paola Fantini welcomed the verdict and praised the extraordinary bravery of the two victims who were completely unknown to each other.

DC Fantini stated that Clark invited the women into his home and a hotel room to isolate them before carrying out the offences with absolutely no regard for whether they consented to the act.

The detective added that a dangerous rapist had been taken off the streets and urged anyone who has been the victim of sexual violence to come forward and report it to police regardless of when the offences took place.
