A "calculated predator" who systematically targeted lone women on the London Underground's night services has been sentenced to an extended custodial term of four-and-a-half years.
Salman Yousaf, 46, currently of HMP Pentonville, entered late guilty pleas to nine criminal charges, comprising eight counts of sexual assault and one count of outraging public decency.
The sentencing hearing at Inner London Crown Court on 20 May detailed a pattern of offending spanning a four-year period between 2017 and 2021.
The court heard that Yousaf was already serving a separate seven-year prison sentence when a data-sharing exercise between the Metropolitan Police Service and the British Transport Police (BTP) linked his specific modus operandi to a series of unsolved transport network cold cases.
The prosecution established that the defendant deliberately boarded late-night and early-morning trains on the Central and Jubilee lines to scout for vulnerable, isolated passengers.

The initial incident occurred at approximately 05:00 on 11 March 2017, when the defendant engaged in an act of public masturbation in front of a female passenger on a Central Line service near Stratford.
On eight subsequent occasions, Yousaf identified and singled out women who had fallen asleep during their journeys, subjecting them to non-consensual sexual contact.
BTP detectives formally interviewed the defendant under caution inside a prison facility on 16 April 2024, during which he maintained a strict "no comment" stance to all operational questions.
The Crown Prosecution Service subsequently authorized the indictment, and the defendant maintained a not guilty position until the formal commencement of his trial approached, at which point he admitted the full catalogue of offences.

In addition to the immediate four-and-a-half-year prison term—which ensures his incarceration will extend beyond the year 2030—the presiding judge ordered that Yousaf serve an additional four years on licence upon his eventual release.
The court further ordered that the defendant be placed on the sex offenders register for life and subjected him to a stringent Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Following the conclusion of the proceedings, BTP Detective Constable Iryna Cuthbert commended the bravery of the victims in coming forward, noting that the defendant had exhibited a total absence of remorse from his initial arrest through to the final sentencing exercise.
