A 30-year-old man with a prolific criminal history has been jailed for 22 months after launching a drug-fuelled attack on his ex-partner’s mother.
Francis Nala-Hartley, of Edgecombe Road, Headington, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 10 March 2026, following a violent episode triggered by "baseless" jealousy and heavy substance abuse.
The court heard that in the early hours of 6 July 2024, Nala-Hartley arrived at his former partner's home while significantly under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
Witnesses and attending officers noted that the defendant had visible white powder under his nose and "glazed eyes" at the time of the confrontation.
After repeatedly calling his ex-partner and receiving no answer, Nala-Hartley began kicking the front door of the property in an attempt to force entry.
When the victim’s mother intervened, Nala-Hartley punched her directly in the face, wrongly suspecting that his ex-partner was sleeping with another man inside.
The assault resulted in bruising and a scratch to the woman's face, leading to a charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).
Upon his arrest at the scene, police discovered a quantity of cocaine in his possession; however, during subsequent interviews, the defendant claimed to have "no memory" of the entire incident.
Nala-Hartley showed further contempt for the legal process by failing to attend his initial trial, leading to a conviction in his absence for the assault.
He later pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to surrender to police bail, adding to a staggering criminal record of 19 previous convictions for 33 separate offences.
The court noted that this latest violence constituted a direct breach of a suspended sentence handed down in 2023 for the possession of a baseball bat in a public place.
The sentencing judge, noting the "appalling" nature of the defendant's record, stated that the offence was severely aggravated by his prior history and the clear role of Class A drugs in his behaviour.
The 22-month sentence includes the activation of the previous suspended term and additional time for the bail offences and the ABH charge.
Nala-Hartley will serve at least half of his sentence behind bars before being eligible for release on licence, during which he will be subject to strict supervision.
