🔴 ABUSIVE PARTNER JAILED FOR TERRIFYING CAMPAIGN OF COERCION & VIOLENCE
A violent bully who strangled, stalked & terrorised a woman in front of her children has been locked up after a relentless campaign of threats, calls & intimidation.
A 42-year-old man has been jailed for more than four years for a targeted campaign of coercion, violence and intimidation against a woman in Rushden, repeatedly assaulting and terrorising her in front of her children over several weeks.
Mohammed Miah, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on 4 November to a total of four years and one month’s imprisonment following his conviction by a jury on 1 August.
He was also handed a five-year restraining order preventing any contact with the woman other than through approved third-party agencies, the court heard.
Between 21 April and 14 June this year, Miah repeatedly subjected the woman to assaults inside her home, including placing both hands around her throat in an incident of intentional strangulation.
He made threats during a telephone call to inflict a serious facial injury if she did not comply with his demands, before continuing to bombard her with unwanted calls and messages despite clear instructions to leave her alone.
On 13 June, after receiving spam messages from Miah which she ignored, he called her multiple times and then threatened violence against her and her family, escalating to a threat to kill.
The following day, Miah telephoned more than 50 times before locating the woman as she drove with her mother and children to her parents’ home, spotting her vehicle on the opposite side of the road.
As they remained locked inside the car outside the address, Miah approached, shouting aggressively, demanding she open the door and banging on the vehicle before leaving the scene.
Police officers arrested him shortly afterwards, discovering a utility knife in his vehicle, which was seized as evidence.
Miah was charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, stalking involving fear of violence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
PC Steve Lane of Northamptonshire Police’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit led the case, praising the victim’s courage and stating that action would continue to be taken against offenders who engage in such conduct.
