Muhammed Zeeshan Ali, 33, has been convicted after Metropolitan Police officers intercepted him on his way to meet a 13-year-old girl for Grooming & sexual exploitation in south-east London.

Ali, who had been communicating with the underage girl on social media, arranged to meet her outside Canada Water Underground Station on 7 February. However, officers were aware of his plan and ambushed him at the meeting point.

Residing at Rotherhithe New Road in Southwark, Ali attempted to destroy evidence on his phone by smashing it on the floor as police apprehended him.

Following his arrest, Ali appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty to all charges of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to meet a child for sexual grooming.

Detective Sergeant Callum Mantell, from the Met's Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation team, described Ali as "a dangerous predator" who utilized social media to target children. Mantell emphasized the importance of swift investigative measures, ensuring Ali's conviction and accountability for his actions.

Ali has been remanded in custody and is awaiting sentencing at Inner London Crown Court.
