Four Birmingham men have been jailed for over 20 years in total following a violent, armed attempt to steal a Rolex watch that left three people injured. During the chaotic robbery, a shot was fired, striking a security guard, and the victim was threatened at gunpoint, creating scenes of panic outside a Moseley Road pub in February last year.
Andrew James, 42, of Granville Square, and Abdoulie Anderson, 21, of Bell Barn Road, each received six years and six months in prison, while Daneton Bailey-Warren, 21, of Springbank Road, and Enrico Hendricks, 25, of Prince of Wales Lane, were sentenced to three years and 11 months each. The men pleaded guilty to attempted robbery on the second day of their trial at Birmingham Crown Court on 7 August 2023.
James also pleaded guilty to firearm and cannabis possession, while Anderson admitted to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and wounding.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of 11 February 2023, when James spotted a Rolex-wearing man in the pub and contacted Anderson, who arrived with Bailey-Warren and Hendricks. The group confronted the victim, demanding the watch, and when he resisted, they threatened him with a firearm. Security staff attempted to intervene, sparking a scuffle during which a shot was fired, injuring a guard in the ankle.
James was detained as he attempted to flee and was found to be carrying a second firearm. A CCTV investigation later identified Anderson, Bailey-Warren, and Hendricks, tracking them to a club they had visited earlier in a stolen Peugeot 2008.
Detective Sergeant Lucy Mooney of West Midlands Police Major Crime Team commented, “Fortunately, the security guard’s injury was not long-term, and the other victims have recovered. We remain committed to removing firearms from our streets and holding offenders accountable.”
