Errol Grant Jailed Six Years After Sawn-Off Shotgun Found in Great Barr

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after a sawn-off shotgun, which had been used in a shooting, was discovered abandoned in a Great Barr alleyway.

Errol Grant, of Sussex Avenue, West Bromwich, was found guilty of possession of the firearm in May and sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

The incident began on March 11 of last year, when members of the public contacted police after discovering the weapon near Grove Vale Avenue at approximately 4:00 PM.

Upon recovery, officers seized the double-barrelled shotgun alongside a bag containing a machete and 20 shotgun cartridges.

Authorities believe the firearm had been utilised during a shooting in the West Bromwich area just one day prior, which left one person injured.

Investigators successfully identified Grant as the individual responsible after forensic testing revealed traces of his blood on both the shotgun and the bag, providing a definitive DNA match.

This conviction and the removal of the weapon from the streets is cited as a success for Operation Target, a long-term West Midlands Police initiative focused on dismantling serious and organised crime across the region.

The operation involves specialist teams, including firearms officers, working to disrupt criminal activity related to drugs, money laundering, exploitation and illegal firearms.
