🔴 TRIAL DATE SET FOR MAN ACCUSED OF MURDERING STEPH IRONS
A trial date has now been set for Adedapo Adegbola, 40, who is accused of murdering psychology graduate Stephanie Irons, 23, at her home in Mapperley.
The defendant appeared at Nottingham Crown Court via video link from HMP Nottingham as the timetable for the case was confirmed.
Adegbola, born 12 April 1985, ( 12/04/1985 ) of Woodborough Road, Mapperley, is charged with one count of murder following the discovery of Ms Irons’ body on 21 October. Police were called to the address on Westdale Lane West at 10.07pm after concerns were raised for a woman’s safety. Emergency services located Ms Irons deceased inside the property, and a murder investigation was immediately launched.
During the short administrative hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Adegbola spoke only to confirm his identity and that he could hear the proceedings clearly. No plea was entered. Judge Nirmal Shant KC listed the case for a formal plea and trial preparation hearing on 16 January, directing that the defendant remain in custody until that stage.
The court was told that the prosecution alleges Adegbola, who was known to Ms Irons, was responsible for the fatal injuries discovered at the scene. A full trial has been scheduled to commence on 7 April next year, with the time estimate to be finalised once psychiatric and evidential reports are complete.
A second suspect, a 40-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, remains on bail under strict conditions while inquiries continue. Detectives are continuing to gather statements, digital evidence, and forensic material ahead of the next court listing.
Ms Irons, a Nottingham Trent University graduate, had completed both her undergraduate degree and master’s in clinical psychology and was preparing to apply for her doctorate.
Her family have previously released a formal tribute through Nottinghamshire Police, describing her academic determination and dedication to her chosen field.i
They said she would be remembered as a loved and valued member of her family, noting her ambition to become a psychologist and the progress she had already made towards that goal.
Officers have renewed appeals for information and are asking anyone with relevant details to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 677 of 21 October, or Crimestoppers anonymously.
The case is next listed for 16 January, when Adegbola will be required to attend Nottingham Crown Court for the plea hearing ahead of his trial on 7 April.
