Tanzir Ali Convicted of Attempted Murder After Shooting Teenager in Head on Sheffield Street

A 27-year-old man has been convicted of attempted murder at Sheffield Crown Court after shooting a 16-year-old boy in the head on a street in South Yorkshire.

Tanzir Ali, of Glencoe Road, Sheffield, was found guilty by a jury following a trial in connection with the shooting on London Road, Sheffield, at around 17:15 GMT on 24 November last year.

The victim suffered life-changing injuries in the attack, which occurred during a street altercation captured on close-circuit television cameras.

Ali, who had previously entered a guilty plea to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on 18 November.

Co-defendant Sharna Osborne, 24, of Duthie Terrace, Aberdeen, was found guilty of assisting an offender after booking a hotel room in Scotland under false details to aid Ali's flight from police.

The prosecution presented CCTV evidence tracking Ali’s movements before, during, and after the discharge of the weapon, showing him retrieving a handgun from his pocket during a dispute, firing at the victim, placing the weapon back into his pocket, and fleeing the scene.

During proceedings, the defence argued that Ali had not intended to pull the trigger and was unaware the firearm was loaded, an account rejected by the jury in the light of the video evidence.

Following the discharge of the firearm, South Yorkshire Police tracked Ali to Aberdeen, where officers arrested both defendants at a hotel facility.

The victim required emergency medical treatment.

Senior Investigating Officer Greg Dakin stated described the life-changing impact of the attack:

“The victim and his family’s lives have been changed forever by this devastating attack.

“The boy’s family were forced to endure the pain of waiting at his bedside, not knowing if he would pass away from his injuries.

He continued:

“Ali attempted to kill a child, and then fled hundreds of miles away in a cowardly effort to escape the consequences, aided by Osborne.”

Both defendants remain remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court on 18 November for formal sentencing proceedings.
