Rapist Jailed for Over Seven Years After Attack on Sleeping Woman

A Leicester man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for raping a woman while she slept after a party. Danny Pechap, 21, carried out the assault in the early hours of Saturday 27 April, following a gathering they both attended. He kept video footage of the incident on his phone.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, did not know Pechap personally, though they had mutual acquaintances. After the party, Pechap, of Birds Nest Avenue, Leicester, returned to the place where the woman was staying and attacked her while she was asleep.

She awoke the next morning to find her shorts on backwards and bloodstains on them. The assault was reported after she visited A&E.

During the investigation, police seized mobile phones, DNA samples, and clothing. Emma Bailey, the investigating officer, revealed that one of Pechap’s phones contained videos of the assault. Pechap also admitted to removing a bloodstained bedsheet from the scene and disposing of it, knowing it could be used as evidence.

Pechap pleaded guilty to one count of rape of a woman over 16 at Leicester Crown Court on 29 August. He was sentenced at the same court on Thursday, 10 October.
