Asylum seeker Sheraz Malik: Jailed for Park Teen Rape
Asylum seeker jailed for park rape of vulnerable teenager.
An Pakistani asylum seeker who repeatedly struck and degraded a vulnerable 18-year-old woman during a horrifying sexual assault in a Nottinghamshire park has been handed a 14-year extended sentence.
Sheraz Malik, 28, was jailed for 10 years in custody with a further four years on extended licence at Birmingham Crown Court today after a jury previously convicted him of two counts of rape.
The court heard that the Pakistani national attacked his deeply intoxicated victim in Sutton Lawn, Sutton-in-Ashfield, on the evening of June 29 last year, shortly after she had already been raped by another unidentified man.
Prosecutor Nicholas Corsellis KC detailed how the teenager had been left in the park by a male friend who asked Malik's group to look after her, leading to her being taken to a secluded spot and subjected to the successive assaults.
Judge Simon Ash KC noted that Malik physically struck the victim hard in the face and head when she attempted to resist, while subjecting her to additional humiliation by repeatedly calling her a "slut" throughout the ordeal.

In his sentencing remarks, the judge stated that Malik posed a significant risk to the public and displayed zero remorse, citing a pre-sentence report that highlighted the defendant's hostility towards the victim and distorted thinking regarding personal entitlement and the objectification of women.
The trial previously heard that the defendant, who claimed to have been smoking cannabis and playing cricket before the incident, had arrived in the UK less than 12 months prior to the attack after living in France, Germany, and Italy.
A formal reporting restriction preventing the publication of Malik's immigration status was lifted following the conclusion of the trial in January, where jurors rejected his claims of consensual sex and convicted him despite his "no comment" police interviews regarding damning DNA evidence.
The harrowing case previously sparked protests and counter-protests in Sutton-in-Ashfield after Reform UK MP Lee Anderson highlighted the suspect's background on social media, prompting localized debate over immigration rules.

In a devastating victim impact statement read to the court, the teenager detailed her ongoing battle with anxiety, stress, and severe nightmares, stating that she continues to struggle to cope with the trauma of the attack and the subsequent medical examinations.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that the complex investigation remains an active priority, with Detective Inspector Nicole Milner praising the victim's immense bravery while confirming inquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the second outstanding suspect.
