The victim contacted emergency services at approximately 21:00 to report that an unknown male had subjected her to a sexual assault and strangulation.
The court was informed that the victim sustained serious head injuries during the struggle and required hospital treatment for her wounds.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the complainant described how the trauma had ruined her day-to-day life and left her suffering from regular flashbacks.
The woman stated that she hoped the sentence reflected the pain and loss of confidence she has endured since the random assault.
