A 30-year-old delivery driver from Birmingham has been convicted of sexual assault after pretending to deliver an unaddressed package to a woman's home in the Cotswolds before invading her property and pressing his erect penis against her hip.

Kane Landell, 30, of Chadwick Avenue, Birmingham, denied the single count of sexual assault but was found guilty by a jury following a trial at Gloucester Crown Court on September 23.

The defendant, who was captured on video by his quick-thinking victim as he attempted to flee the scene in a white delivery van, has been remanded in custody to await his formal sentencing hearing scheduled for November 12.

The court heard that the frightening ordeal took place on June 17 2024 in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, when the victim arrived back at her residential property.

Landell pulled up outside the address driving a white delivery van and approached the woman, claiming that he had a parcel that required delivery to her home.

Before entering the premises, the defendant intentionally asked the victim whether she lived alone. then stepped inside the residential address uninvited, placed a package on a table inside the house and asked the householder if he could use her bathroom facilities.

While Landell was inside the bathroom, the woman inspected the package he had left on the table and immediately noticed that it bore no name, address or delivery details whatsoever.

Suspicious of his motives, her concerns were instantly heightened when Landell emerged from the bathroom with a visible erection.

The victim firmly instructed the defendant to leave her home, but Landell ignored her demands and approached her inside the property.

He then physically targeted the woman, pressing his erect penis against her hip despite her repeated demands for him to get out of the address immediately.

Demonstrating remarkable composure under immense pressure, the victim retrieved her mobile telephone and began filming Landell to secure evidence of his identity and presence inside her home.

Confronted by the camera, Landell abandoned the premises and retreated to his white delivery van parked outside.

In his haste to escape the scene, the defendant attempted to reverse the vehicle away from the property, crashing into surrounding bushes and a wall during his retreat.

Despite the commotion, the victim managed to record the registration number of the delivery van on her phone before making an emergency report to Gloucestershire Constabulary.

Officers used the vehicle registration details and video footage provided by the victim to swiftly track down, identify and arrest Landell in connection with the attack.

Following the jury's guilty verdict, Detective Constable Dan Sackett, the investigating officer for Gloucestershire Constabulary, praised the victim for her extraordinary resilience and perseverance throughout the criminal justice process.

Detective Constable Sackett noted that her quick thinking in filming the defendant directly ensured he was identified, arrested and rightly put before the court to face justice.

Gloucestershire Constabulary also emphasized that dedicated support services remain available for all survivors of sexual assault regardless of whether they choose to formally report offences to the police.

Landell maintained his denial of the sexual assault throughout police interviews and court proceedings, forcing his victim to relive the ordeal before the jury ultimately rejected his account.

Following the guilty verdict handed down at Gloucester Crown Court, the court adjourned proceedings for pre-sentence reports to be prepared. Landell will return to Gloucester Crown Court on November 12 where he faces a custodial sentence for the predatory attack.
