Fake Sex Worker & Accomplice Jailed For Manslaughter After Spiking Men With Date-Rape Drug To Steal Valuables

A man and a woman who carried out a calculated scheme of drugging and robbing men, resulting in the manslaughter of two victims and the poisoning of two others, have each been sentenced to 17 years in prison at Oxford Crown Court. Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, both formerly of Ilford, Essex, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two further counts of administering poison following a joint investigation by Thames Valley Police and Gloucestershire Constabulary. The court heard that the defendants targeted men seeking sexual services between August 2024 and July 2025, taking payment without any intention of providing those services. Upon entering the victims' homes, Mihai secretly spiked their drinks with gamma-butyrolactone, known as GBL, a substance that converts into the sedative GHB within the body, rendering the individuals deeply unconscious while the pair stole valuables including watches and aftershave. The offending led to the deaths of Malcolm King, 80, from Bagendon, Gloucestershire, who was found dead at his home on August 21, 2024, and 37-year-old Gary Mouat, who was discovered dead at his property in Banbury on July 13 last year. While Mr King's death was initially treated as non-suspicious due to a pre-existing medical condition, subsequent police inquiries and forensic links prompted by Mr Mouat's death uncovered that both men had been fatally poisoned with GBL by Mihai. Text message evidence recovered during the investigation revealed explicit coordination between the defendants, with Dumitru instructing Mihai in Romanian to put a victim to sleep and check for jewellery and valuables. Detectives subsequently identified two surviving victims across the south of England who had similarly been drugged and robbed by the pair before the defendants were arrested on July 31 last year. Sentencing the pair, Her Honourable Mrs Justice Brunner KC underscored the severe culpability involved in administering uncontrolled doses of a dangerous substance to strangers. Mrs Justice Brunner KC told the defendants that it ought to have been obvious that their actions posed a mortal risk, noting that they had left each victim alone in deep unconsciousness without a moment's thought as to whether they would wake up. Senior investigating officers from both participating police forces commended the complex cross-border cooperation required to uncover the predatory pattern of behaviour, while prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized that the cynical plot to steal from vulnerable victims ultimately escalated into fatal consequences.
