A teenage suspect has been formally charged with murder following a tragic stabbing incident that shook the Hackney community. The 17-year-old, whose identity remains protected under legal constraints, appeared before the Stratford Magistrates’ Court on February 21 to face the grave accusations leveled against him.
The fatal altercation occurred on the evening of February 17 along Hackney Road, E2, resulting in the untimely death of 17-year-old Nathan Bawuah. Nathan succumbed to multiple stab wounds sustained during the altercation, prompting swift action from law enforcement officers who apprehended the suspect on February 19.

In the wake of Nathan’s tragic passing, tributes have poured in from friends and community members, who have gathered at the scene of the crime to lay flowers and heartfelt messages in his memory. Nathan’s death marks yet another devastating loss to knife violence in London, coming on the heels of the earlier killing of Tyler Donnelly, 19, on January 25.
As Nathan’s grieving family seeks solace amidst unimaginable sorrow, they are being supported by dedicated specialist officers who are assisting them through this difficult time. Meanwhile, authorities have scheduled a post-mortem examination at Poplar Mortuary on February 21 to further investigate the circumstances surrounding Nathan’s death.
