Teenager Convicted for Murder and Robbery in West London
A Metropolitan Police investigation into the tragic fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Victor Lee has resulted in the conviction of Elijah Gookol-Mely, 18, for murder and robbery.
Victor Lee, a shy and introspective teenager from North Acton, was stabbed near the Grand Union Canal in Scrubs Lane, W10, at around 17:30hrs on June 25, 2023. After being pushed into the canal, locals rescued Victor from the water, but despite emergency treatment from police officers and ambulance services, he tragically died at the scene.

Following an extensive investigation involving mobile phone data analysis, CCTV review, witness accounts, and forensic evidence, the Met linked Elijah Gookol-Mely to the murder. A knife recovered from Gookol-Mely's home had both Victor’s blood and the defendant’s DNA. Gookol-Mely was arrested on June 30, 2023, and charged with murder and robbery the next day.
The motive behind the attack was established as robbery, with Gookol-Mely stealing Victor’s bike and rucksack, believed to contain several knives. Victor had met his killer due to an interest in buying and selling weapons online, not fully understanding the potential harm they could cause. His family described him as vulnerable and easily manipulated.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who led the investigation, emphasized the tragedy of Victor’s death, highlighting his vulnerability and the ease with which young people can buy dangerous weapons online. A notebook found in Gookol-Mely’s prison cell contained disturbing rap lyrics about the crime, showing a lack of remorse.
Gookol-Mely was found guilty by a majority verdict on June 17, 2023, at the Old Bailey. He will be sentenced on July 19, 2023. Two other teenagers were found not guilty.
Well, that’s all for now. But until our next article, please stay tuned, stay informed, but most of all stay safe, and I’ll see you then.
