A recent fast-paced investigation by the Metropolitan Police led to the conviction of a teenager involved in a firearms incident in Chelsea. Leon Redda, 19, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for recklessly discharging a gun towards two individuals on the World’s End Estate. Riding as a pillion passenger on a stolen moped, Redda fired two shots at random, fortunately causing no injuries.
The court heard how Redda, from Stanley Gardens in Notting Hill, carried a handgun as he rode into Chelsea’s World’s End Estate on June 18 last year. With shocking audacity, he fired two shots, seemingly without any specific target, endangering the lives of innocent bystanders.
Detectives swiftly analyzed CCTV footage, tracing Redda's movements to a nearby path by the River Thames, where he abandoned the moped and fled after discarding his helmet. Redda was apprehended, and evidence from his seized phone placed him at the scene during the shooting.
The severity of Redda’s actions was underscored by Detective Constable Katherine Newton from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who described them as 'unbelievably reckless.' Redda’s guilty plea to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life further highlights the gravity of the situation.
