Qudus Ajeyemi Jailed for Hull Attempted Rape and Sexual Assault

A 27-year-old man who sexually assaulted and attempted to rape a woman in Hull has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison and will face deportation upon his release.

Following a trial at Hull Crown Court, Qudus Ajeyemi, of May Street, Hull, who identifies as Nigerian, was found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault.

The court heard that in March 2023, the victim returned to a property on Tavistock Street following a night out.

The jury was told that Ajeyemi, who had introduced himself to the victim under the alias "Spartan", took her to a room under the guise of helping her find a place to rest.

Prosecutors stated that rather than leaving the room as the victim expected, Ajeyemi touched her and attempted to force himself upon her and rape her.

The court was presented with key audio evidence recorded by the victim the following day, during which Ajeyemi called her to apologise for his actions.

In addition to his five-and-a-half-year custodial sentence, Ajeyemi was made the subject of a seven-year restraining order and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Upon the completion of his prison term, he will be deported.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson, who led the investigation, detailed the impact of the offending and the subsequent court proceedings.

"Ajeyemi preyed on the woman, taking advantage of her and attempted to rape her in a space she ought to have been safe in, around friends," DS Anderson said.

"The trauma and emotional damage he caused will undoubtably stay with her for the rest of her life.

The impact of this ordeal was only magnified by Ajeyemi’s refusal to admit what he had done, delaying the outcome for the victim and forcing her to endure a gruelling six-day trial."
