Gangland Executioner Convicted After Nine Years on the Run in Pakistan

A gangland killer who evaded justice for nearly nine years in Pakistan has been convicted of the execution-style murder of Andre Marshall in Urmston, Greater Manchester. Abdul Qadir Ahsan, 28, was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court on 23 October 2024 and sentenced the following day for the 2015 killing.

Andre Marshall, 29, was discovered dead in his BMW in a church car park with seven gunshot wounds and a fractured skull. Evidence revealed that Ahsan had shot Marshall repeatedly before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle. Ahsan then escaped to Pakistan, successfully evading capture for nearly a decade until UK authorities managed to secure his extradition.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Alan Richardson, of CPS North West, acknowledged the lengthy pursuit of justice, highlighting collaborative efforts between the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Greater Manchester Police, and the Extradition Unit. Richardson expressed hope that Ahsan’s conviction would send a clear message, stating, “Murderers who flee abroad will not escape justice. Wherever offenders go and however long it takes, we will continue to strive for justice for victims and their families.”

At trial, forensic evidence and cell site data placed Ahsan at the scene of the murder. His blood was discovered on the steering wheel, visor, and gearstick of Marshall’s BMW, contradicting his initial claims. Surveillance footage presented in court showed a man moving Marshall’s car shortly after the shooting in an attempt to mislead investigators. Ahsan later changed his story, alleging that two other men had attacked Marshall, but the jury was unconvinced.

The conviction brings long-awaited closure to Marshall’s family, who endured years of uncertainty. In 2016, two other men, Danial Shahid and Kadell Rivers, received custodial sentences for assisting Ahsan after the murder.
