Coventry Robber Jailed for 12 Years Following Violent Assault & Robbery With Broken Bottle
Warwick Crown Court hands heavy prison term to 29-year-old offender who left victim needing emergency surgery in sudden street ambush.
A Coventry robber who launched a violent attack with a broken glass bottle before stealing high-value personal items has been sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment at Warwick Crown Court.
Hussein Dahir, 29, of Barras Lane, Coventry, was sentenced on 28 July following his conviction for robbery at the conclusion of a crown court trial on 3 February. A co-defendant was acquitted of the charge by the jury.
The court heard that the incident occurred at approximately 3.20pm on 29 June last year at the junction of Canal Road and The Stampings in Coventry. Dahir and an accomplice initially approached and befriended the male victim before initiating a sudden assault.
During the encounter, the victim was punched and repeatedly struck with a broken bottle, suffering deep lacerations to his head and body that subsequently required emergency surgical intervention.

Following the physical assault, Dahir and his associate forcibly removed designer clothing and a mobile phone from the victim before fleeing the scene on foot.
Witnesses at the scene, including two women who observed the assault, provided key statements to responding officers describing the progression from punches to the deployment of the glass weapon.
An investigation conducted by the West Midlands Police Neighbourhood Crime Team and Digital Media Team collated forensic evidence and analysed local closed-circuit television footage. CCTV recordings captured Dahir and his associate in the company of the victim immediately prior to the incident, and subsequently showed the perpetrators running along The Stampings carrying the stolen items.
Passing sentence, the presiding judge took into account the gravity of the weapon-enabled assault and the severity of the injuries inflicted during the theft under UK robbery sentencing guidelines.
