Bloody attack in archway: Man charged after brutal stabbing near busy London station

A man has been charged following a stabbing near Archway station.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation after a man in his 20s was admitted to hospital with stab injuries at approximately 10:30 pm on Saturday, February 15. The attack took place in Navigator Square.

Police were called after a man walked into hospital alone in critical condition with stab wounds at 10.28pm.

Further investigation revealed he had been stabbed in Navigator Square, N19, close to Whittington Hospital. A large cordon was set up in Navigator Square that extended several streets as it appears the victim walked from where he was attacked to the hospital.

Photos from the scene reveal cones where set up behind the cordon, appearing to trace a blood trail left behind by the man as he staggered to hospital. He remains in the hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The cordon extended from Navigator Square towards MacDonald Road which runs adjacent to it, connected via walkways. MacDonald Road was also cordoned off. A Met Police spokesperson at the time said:

"Police were called at 22:28hrs on Saturday, 15 February to reports of a man self-presenting at hospital with stab injuries. The man, aged in his 20s, is in a life-threatening condition. The man, aged in his 20s, is in a serious condition."

Following further investigations, Richard Sivanda, 22, of Highgate Hill, was arrested on Sunday, February 16, and has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 19.

The victim was initially reported to be in a life-threatening condition; however, police have since confirmed that his condition is no longer considered critical. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.

The Metropolitan Police has increased patrols in the area as part of the ongoing investigation and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Anna Deighton, of Central North Local Investigations, said:

"Our officers worked swiftly to establish the scene of the assault, securing a cordon and carrying out enquiries in the area."

She added:

"Residents and visitors will have noticed an increased police presence while the investigation continues. Dedicated officers are conducting reassurance patrols and remain available to address any concerns from the public."
