🔴 BASEBALL-BAT RAPIST GUILTY AFTER BRUTAL WALSALL CAR PARK ATTACK
A Birmingham man brutally attacked a woman with a baseball bat in Walsall, leaving her battered and traumatised. Simon Tang has now been convicted of rape.
A Birmingham man who subjected a woman to a sustained and brutal assault in Walsall has been found guilty of rape.
Simon Tang, 56, of Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of two counts of rape, possessing an offensive weapon, and actual bodily harm. The attack happened near a car park off Birmingham Street, Walsall, on 5 May.
The court heard that Tang assaulted a sex worker after retrieving a baseball bat from the boot of his car. During the attack he struck her repeatedly, leaving her with extensive bruising to her legs and head.
Despite the violence she endured, the woman reported the incident to police soon after. Investigators said she had been supported throughout both her recovery and the criminal investigation by specially trained public-protection officers.
Detectives worked with her to compile the evidence that led to Tang’s conviction.
DS Morgan Colley, from the investigation team, praised the woman’s courage, saying:
“I would like to commend the bravery of the woman in this case as without her support we would not have been able to secure a positive outcome at court.
This man posed a real danger to women and thanks to her, he has now been convicted of his crimes and remanded in custody ahead of sentence.”
Tang will be sentenced on 30 January.
