Armed Man Shot Dead by Police Outside Milton Keynes Station

A dramatic police shooting outside Milton Keynes railway station left a man dead after armed officers opened fire following reports of a suspect with a weapon.

A man has been shot dead by armed police outside Milton Keynes railway station after reports that he was carrying a firearm. The incident unfolded at approximately 12:55 PM on April 1, 2025, when officers from Thames Valley Police (TVP) and British Transport Police (BTP) responded to an emergency call reporting a male suspect in possession of a weapon at the station.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene, where they confronted the suspect and issued verbal commands instructing him to disarm. Witnesses described the man as failing to comply with police orders before advancing towards the officers.

A short time later, gunshots were heard, and the suspect collapsed onto the pavement in full public view. Bystanders reported seeing a gunshot wound to his stomach as armed officers immediately initiated CPR in an attempt to save his life.

Emergency services arrived swiftly, with two ambulances deployed to the scene. Despite prolonged efforts by paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at 1:44 PM.

Footage captured by witnesses shows the aftermath of the shooting, with officers administering medical aid while a crowd gathered nearby. One witness, who had been at a bus stop adjacent to the scene, described how CPR was conducted for an extended period, but there were no visible signs of response from the man. Others reported hearing a single gunshot before observing police attempting to revive the suspect.

A significant police cordon was established around the station square where the shooting occurred. Some station entrances were closed to the public, although London Northwestern Railway confirmed that train services remained unaffected. Access to the front of the station was limited due to the ongoing police presence.

There have been conflicting witness accounts regarding the weapon the suspect was allegedly carrying. While initial reports referred to a firearm, some individuals who observed the confrontation suggested the object may have been a machete or similar bladed weapon. However, Thames Valley Police have not yet provided further clarification.

In accordance with statutory procedure following a fatal police shooting, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an independent investigation. A spokesperson for the IOPC confirmed that Thames Valley Police referred the incident to the watchdog shortly after it occurred, with IOPC investigators arriving at the scene to commence inquiries.

The investigation will examine all circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the actions taken by the officers involved. The IOPC formally declared an independent investigation at 2:26 PM, stating that the inquiry remains in its early stages and that no further information is currently available.

By 5:00 PM, a large plastic barrier had been erected outside one of the station exits, with a police officer stationed nearby. The station remains operational, albeit with access restrictions in place as forensic examination and investigative work continue.

A statement issued by Thames Valley Police confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The force has not yet released details regarding the identity of the deceased.
