🔴 CHRISTMAS KILLING: BECKLES BROTHERS ARRESTED AFTER 13 DAYS ON RUN
Police swoop after a public manhunt ends with two young men in custody, as detectives close in on charges over a fatal holiday period stabbing.
Two brothers previously named as suspects in the Christmas Day killing of Trey Johnson have been arrested following a public appeal issued on behalf Tuesday, 30 December.
Tiego Beckles, 20, and Richard Beckles, 19, were arrested on 7 January after being at large for 13 days following the fatal stabbing.
West Midlands Police confirmed both men were detained on suspicion of murder and remain in custody as detectives continue to question them.
Mr Johnson, aged 30, was found with serious stab injuries in Burcot Avenue in Wolverhampton shortly after 3.30am on 25 December and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers launched an immediate investigation in the hours following the killing, with the public appeal coming several days later after repeated efforts to trace the suspects proved unsuccessful.
Since then, detectives have spoken to witnesses, recovered CCTV footage and carried out what police describe as a detailed review of movements and events during the early hours of Christmas morning.
The arrests mark a significant development in the inquiry, though police stressed that enquiries remain ongoing and further investigative work is under way.
Both men are expected to be questioned further before a charging decision is made, with formal charges anticipated in the coming days, subject to the advice of prosecutors.
Mr Johnson’s family are being supported by specialist officers and are being kept informed of developments as the case progresses.
Police continue to appeal for information from anyone who was in the Burcot Avenue area during the early hours of Christmas Day and who has not yet spoken to officers.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 481 of 25 December, as detectives continue to build a full evidential picture surrounding the killing.
