🔴 LEICESTER STABBING: MAN CHARGED AFTER CITY CENTRE KILLING
Police cordons sealed off a busy Leicester street after a public confrontation ended in fatal violence, with detectives racing to secure CCTV and witness evidence. A teenager has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a university student near Leicester city centre.
Leicestershire Police said Harper Dennis, aged 18, of North Road, West Drayton, London, has been charged in connection with the death of Khaleed Oladipo, 20, who was stabbed in Oxford Street on Tuesday 3 February.
Emergency services were called to Oxford Street, close to the junction with Bonners Lane, shortly after 5pm following reports that a man had collapsed in the street. While officers were en route, it was confirmed the victim had suffered a stab injury.
Paramedics attended the scene and Mr Oladipo was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he died later that evening.
A post-mortem examination established that he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.
Police said Dennis has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He faces two further charges of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, which are not connected to the murder investigation.
Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team have led the investigation, with enquiries including forensic examination of the scene, analysis of CCTV footage, and witness interviews.
Police have previously said that early enquiries indicated the victim had been involved in an altercation with another man in the street shortly before the stabbing. That individual was reported to have left the area prior to officers arriving.
A scene preservation was put in place following the incident, with several nearby roads closed while forensic and search specialists carried out examinations.
The incident is not being treated as terrorism-related, police have confirmed.
Dennis is due to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, where the case is expected to be sent to the Crown Court….
