🔴 GUN AND DRUGS CHASE: RAM-RAIDING REVOLVER MONSTER JAILED FOR 9 YEARS
Police pursuit through Sandwell ends with armed suspect arrested, Class A drugs seized and two men sent to prison after stolen car chase spiralled out of control. Two men have been jailed after a police pursuit through Sandwell led to the recovery of a firearm, ammunition and significant quantities of Class A drugs, following the interception of a stolen vehicle driven at speed through residential streets.
Officers from West Midlands Police first became aware of a stolen Ford Fiesta on Wood Lane, West Bromwich, at around 10am on 5 May. When marked patrols attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Tammem Miah, accelerated away, ignoring red traffic lights and driving on the wrong side of the carriageway in an attempt to evade arrest.
Police said the manner of driving was dangerous, forcing other road users to take evasive action, with some vehicles mounting the pavement to avoid a collision. One vehicle was struck during the pursuit, although the driver did not sustain serious injuries.
The chase came to an end on Arthur Road, Tipton, where Miah abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot. He was detained outside a nearby address and searched. Officers recovered a revolver, live ammunition, heroin and crack cocaine from a bag he was carrying.
A subsequent search of the address led officers to a room linked to Mohammed Ahmed, where further Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia were discovered, strengthening the prosecution case against both men.
Miah, 23, of High Street, Tipton, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and handling stolen goods. He was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court on 10 December.
Ahmed, also 23, of Arthur Road, Tipton, admitted possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and was jailed for two years and six months.
Detective Constable Kyle Bowering said Miah had been armed with a potentially lethal weapon and had driven with reckless disregard for public safety, adding that the seizure of the drugs prevented their onward supply and both men were now behind bars.
