🔴 GLASGOW PREDATOR JAILED FOR RAPING STUDENT IN CITY CENTRE
Passing sentence, Judge Thomas Welsh KC told the court: “The harm you have done to her is deep, long lasting and incalculable. Your risk of further sexual offending is assessed to be above average. Your conduct that night was predatory and dangerous.”
A predator prowled Glasgow’s streets before launching a calculated sex attack on a lone student, a court heard, exposing chilling CCTV movements and a violent ambush near her home.
A man has been jailed for eight years after being convicted of rape and a serious sexual assault on a young woman in Glasgow city centre.
Mohand Mageed, 26, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on 18 March 2026, having previously been found guilty following a trial on 16 February 2026. The court also imposed an indefinite non-harassment order and placed him on the sex offenders register for life.
The offence occurred on the evening of 9 February 2025, when Mageed followed a 21-year-old student through the city centre before attacking her in the communal entrance of a property near the city centre.
Passing sentence, Judge Thomas Welsh KC told the court: “The harm you have done to her is deep, long lasting and incalculable. Your risk of further sexual offending is assessed to be above average. Your conduct that night was predatory and dangerous.”
The trial heard that the woman had been walking home alone after attending a 21st birthday celebration when Mageed approached her and began asking questions about where she had been and where she was going. She described the interaction as uncomfortable and told jurors she attempted to deter him by stating she had a boyfriend.
As she continued towards her home, Mageed followed her, crossing the road to catch up before forcing his way into the building behind her. Giving evidence, the woman said: “I remember him barging in behind me and being knocked to the ground. He burst through the door and he came at me very aggressively. I ended up on the floor.”
She told the jury she was “visibly panicked, upset and saying ‘no’”, adding: “I was making it clear it was not something that I wanted to do.”
The court heard Mageed then held the woman down and raped her. A nearby resident, alerted by the disturbance, intervened, prompting the attacker to flee the scene.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the woman said: “I never deserved to be treated like that,” describing ongoing anxiety and the impact on her studies.
At the time of the offence, Mageed had been living in temporary accommodation in Glasgow. The court heard he had been granted leave to remain in the United Kingdom approximately six months prior to his arrest. He is married, with his wife currently residing overseas.
During the trial, the defence position was that the sexual activity had been consensual, a claim rejected by the jury in returning a guilty verdict.
Detective Inspector Shirley Coyle of Police Scotland said: “This was a shocking attack on a young woman in a busy city centre. Mageed is a dangerous individual who now faces the consequences of his actions.
“We welcome this sentencing and I would like to thank the woman for her courage in reporting this crime to us and throughout our investigation.
“We remain committed to tackling sexual crimes and bringing those responsible to justice. I would encourage anyone who has been a victim of such crimes to come forward and report it. We will thoroughly investigate and have specially trained officers and partner agencies to support you throughout.”
