Mikey’s Penny for your Poll: The Manchester Airport Assault Sentencing
Vote on Mohamed Amaaz’s Sentencing
A 21-year-old man, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison following a violent confrontation at Manchester Airport in July 2024.
During the incident, which was captured on viral footage, Amaaz assaulted a member of the public in an airport café before launching a sustained attack on two responding female police officers, one of whom suffered a broken nose.
While the court has now delivered its verdict, the sentence has reignited intense debate regarding the protection of emergency workers and whether the judiciary’s response is sufficiently robust to deter such high levels of violence.
Do you believe the 42-month sentence handed down for these assaults—including breaking a police officer's nose—is an appropriate punishment?
