🔴 MAN ACCUSED OF HUNTINGDON TRAIN STABBINGS HIT WITH NEW CHARGES
A 32-year-old man already accused of a mass stabbing aboard a train has been charged with a series of additional violent offences linked to the day before the attack.
Williams is already facing 10 counts of attempted murder over the mass stabbing on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross LNER service on the evening of 1 November, which made an unscheduled emergency stop at Huntingdon Station, Cambridgeshire.
British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that Anthony Williams, of no fixed address, has been charged with seven further offences, including two additional counts of attempted murder, following further inquiries.
BTP said the new charges relate to alleged incidents in Peterborough, Stevenage, and on a train travelling between Hitchin and Biggleswade on 31 October.
Williams is due at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court later today to face the following allegations:
• Attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy at Henry Penn Walk, Peterborough
• Attempted grievous bodily harm against a 28-year-old man at Viersen Platz, Peterborough
• Attempted murder of a 22-year-old man near Pleasure Fair Meadow Road, Peterborough
• Affray and possession of a bladed article linked to an alleged incident at Ritzy Barbers, Peterborough
• Theft of knives from an Asda supermarket in Stevenage
• Common assault of a 31-year-old man on a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade
Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy said detectives investigating the Huntingdon train stabbings had also examined earlier reports and potential linked incidents.
“We have worked closely with colleagues in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police, and with the Crown Prosecution Service, to bring these charges,” he said.
Passengers on the 18:25 GMT LNER service on 1 November reported a man brandishing a knife who began stabbing people shortly after the train passed Peterborough. The emergency diversion to Huntingdon triggered a major response from police and paramedics.
Williams was previously remanded in custody on 3 November in relation to the train stabbing allegations, as well as an additional attempted murder charge connected to a separate incident in London.
He is scheduled to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on 1 December for those matters.
