🔴 EDINBURGH KNIFE RAMPAGE: ARREST MADE AFTER CALDER STABBING
Two wounded as blade suspect storms streets, sparks armed police lockdown near schools before dramatic arrest in Calder Gardens incident. A man has been arrested after two people were injured in a knife attack in the Calder Gardens area of Edinburgh, following reports that an armed suspect was seen carrying bladed weapons during a morning disturbance that prompted the deployment of armed police, officers said.
Police Scotland confirmed that firearms officers were among those dispatched to the scene at about 8.25am on Monday, 2 March, 2026, after receiving reports of a man in possession of a bladed weapon. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.
Two casualties were taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with injuries described as non life-threatening. Police said a male victim sustained injuries consistent with being stabbed, while a female victim suffered a head laceration not believed to have been caused by a bladed weapon.
Chief Inspector Scott Kennedy said: “I’d like to thank the public for their assistance and patience while we dealt with this incident. I understand what happened was alarming for the local community and I want to reassure the public there is no ongoing wider risk. However, if you do have concerns please speak to the officers at the scene or call us on 101.”
Officers cordoned off an area around residential flats in Calder while specialist resources carried out enquiries. Police said the suspect was detained in connection with the disturbance and investigations remain ongoing.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said it received a call at 8.34am and dispatched three ambulances, three paramedic response units and a special operations response team, confirming that two patients were transported to hospital.
Local authority officials said nearby council buildings, including schools and early years centres, were temporarily closed to the public on police advice during the incident. A spokesperson for City of Edinburgh Council said: “We’re aware of an ongoing incident in the Calder area of the city and are continuing to support Police Scotland. Following police advice, all Council buildings nearby, including schools and early years centres, were closed to the public. We’re hoping to be able to reopen these shortly and are continuing to keep parents and local residents updated.”
Witness accounts reported that the suspect had been seen in the vicinity of local educational facilities and commercial premises before returning to a nearby address, though police have not detailed the sequence of events and enquiries into the full circumstances remain active.
Police said officers would maintain a presence in the area while investigative work continues and appealed for anyone with information to contact them via 101.
