A 14-year-old girl has been charged after allegedly showing a knife and axe during a street incident in Dundee, Police Scotland has confirmed.
A 14-year-old girl has been charged after police were called to reports of a youth displaying weapons in Dundee.
Officers attended St Ann Lane in the Lochee area shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday, 23 August. Several police vehicles were seen in a nearby car park as enquiries were carried out.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said:
“Around 7.40pm on Saturday, we received a report of a female youth with a bladed weapon in St Ann Lane, Dundee. Officers attended and a 14-year-old girl was charged in connection. She will be reported to the relevant authorities.”
Video footage of the incident, which has circulated on social media, shows two girls in a distressing situation with a man filming them. The girls can be heard telling him to go away and accusing him of having ‘battered’ a child.
The man continues to film and steps towards the girls, repeatedly asking to see a knife. The 14-year-old lifts a knife and a small axe from the back of her trousers and briefly holds them up before lowering her hands to her sides. Her attention remains on shouting at the man, and she makes a slight effort to move the items behind her back. Having caught the weapons on film, the man then steps back, allowing the two girls to walk away, with one girl appearing to issuing a verbal threat “wait till I catch you“ as she walks away,.
Clips of the encounter have since been widely shared online, where they have been variously portrayed as showing the girl as a “warrior” or as defending a supposed younger child. .
Reports of a ‘28 year old migrant’ being arrested and charged have also circulated, repeated by Grok, X’s in house AI assistant, before clarifying that this is was an online rumour with no factual information having been found to support these social media claims.
