🔴 Dealer caught with 98 wraps stuffed in trousers by cops raid
Cambridge court jails Leeds man who tried to flee police after being found with 100 wraps of crack & heroin ready for street deals. In interview he claimed had stocked up for personal use after a benefits back payment came through.
A Cambridge drug dealer who attempted to flee officers after being stopped outside a suspected drug user’s home has been jailed for more than three years, after police discovered almost 100 wraps of crack cocaine concealed in his trousers
Neighbourhood officers on patrol in Headford Close, Cambridge, on 1 May observed 21-year-old Neil Brown leaving a property known to be linked to drug use and approached him for a stop check
Brown told police he had just smoked cannabis and was returning to work, but when informed he would be detained for a search, he ran, prompting officers to detain him nearby
As officers carried out the search, individual wraps of class A drugs began falling from the leg of his trousers, with a total of 98 wraps ultimately recovered, carrying an estimated street value of around £1,960, and a knife was also found on the ground close to him
During interview Brown claimed he had recently received backdated benefits and had used the money to “treat himself” by purchasing what he said would last him “a couple of months”, although the quantity and packaging of the drugs were considered indicative of supply by investigators
At Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday, 14 November, Brown, of Boggart Hill Drive, Leeds, admitted possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, possession of cannabis and possession of a knife in a public place
The court heard the offences involved the transportation of drugs into Cambridge from outside the area, with the prosecution arguing that the quantity found on Brown pointed to street-level dealing rather than personal use
Recorder Sunil Khanna imposed a custodial sentence of three years and ten months, stating that the presence of a weapon and the attempt to evade police aggravated the offending and justified an immediate prison term
PC Piers Kitson, from the Cambridge neighbourhood team, said officers would continue to target individuals who carry weapons and distribute drugs in the city’s residential areas, highlighting the ongoing enforcement focus on drug supply networks operating in Cambridge
