🔴 JATINDER SINGH JAILED 26 WEEKS FOR CENTRAL LINE SEXUAL ASSAULT
A man who sexually assaulted a woman on a packed Central Line train during the morning rush hour has been sentenced to prison, following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation that saw the victim alert officers via intext message.
Jatinder Singh, also known as Vicky Singh Sangha, aged 35, and born on 15 February 1990, was sentenced at London Inner Crown Court on Tuesday 25 November after pleading guilty to Sexual Assault. The court heard that Sangha, listed as having no fixed address, boarded a westbound Central Line service at Liverpool Street station just after 8.20am on Wednesday 2 October 2024.
Once on the extremely busy and tightly spaced service, Sangha exploited the density of commuters to attempt to conceal his actions while sexually assaulting a woman, who was in her thirties and travelling to work.
The victim demonstrated considerable bravery by discreetly contacting the British Transport Police using their text message reporting service, 61016, while the offence was taking place.
The rapid response and investigative efforts of BTP led to Sangha’s recognition and arrest just days later, when an officer familiar with the incident identified him outside Kings Cross Station.
Following his guilty plea, Sangha received a 26-week custodial sentence. In addition to the term of imprisonment, he was ordered to pay a \textsterling 187 victim surcharge and is required to register with the police for a period of 10 years.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Steven Ridpath-Mitchell commented on the case: "Sangha's opportunistic behaviour was totally unacceptable; the victim was trying to go about her daily life on her way to work and should not have been subjected to his abhorrent and despicable actions."
DC Ridpath-Mitchell further credited the outcome to the victim and the arresting officer, stating: "It is down to the bravery of the victim and the keen observation of an officer that we have been able to arrest, charge and sentence Sangha and see him held accountable."
He concluded by stressing the wider impact and the victim’s support throughout the legal process:
"The victim has bravely supported the investigation throughout, ensuring that Sangha will now have plenty of time to think about his actions while in prison and feel the consequences for years to come.
If you experience or witness a sexual offence on the railway network or at a station, I urge you to report it to us on 61016; we will always take you seriously."
