🔴 BRIGHTON RAPIST MASAMBA SOYOYE, 32, JAILED FOR 10 YEARS
A Brighton man has been jailed for ten years after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another in separate attacks at his home.
Masamba ‘Sam’ Soyoye, known as Sam, aged 32, of Windsor Street, Brighton, and formerly of Nigeria, was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Friday by Judge Christine Laing, the Honorary Recorder of Brighton and Hove.
Soyoye had been found guilty by a jury at the same court on 3 September following a trial in which he denied all charges.
The offences took place in 2024 after Soyoye met the two victims – who did not know each other – in Brighton and invited them back to his flat in the early hours.
In June 2024 he raped one woman.
Three months later, in September 2024, he sexually assaulted the second complainant at the same address.
A third woman had reported being raped by Soyoye in May 2024.
Officers investigated the allegation and interviewed him, but he faced no further action in relation to that complaint.
Prosecuting, Chetna Patel told the trial that Soyoye had targeted the women in calculated and predatory attacks.
Following his conviction, Detective Aimee Collier of the Brighton Investigations Unit praised the courage of the two victims whose evidence secured the guilty verdicts.
At sentencing the judge imposed a ten-year custodial term to run concurrently on the single count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
Soyoye was remanded in custody immediately and will serve the full term subject to standard parole provisions.
Detective Collier said after the hearing: “This sentencing reflects the seriousness of the crimes and the lasting impact they have had on the victims.
“We commend the bravery of both women in coming forward and supporting the investigation.
“Sussex Police remains committed to investigating all reports of rape and sexual assault and ensuring victims receive the support and justice they deserve.”
