At his first trial, Amaaz was found guilty of three criminal charges:
Assaulting an emergency worker: PC Ellie Cook, by beating.
Assaulting a police officer: PC Lydia Ward, occasioning her actual bodily harm (ABH).
Common assault: Assaulting a member of the public, Abdulkareem Ismaeil, by beating.
Amaaz was remanded in custody at the conclusion of the first trial in July last year and has remained behind bars ever since awaiting his final fate.
Case Context & Violent Escalation
The Starbucks Confrontation: On July 23, 2024, Amaaz and his older brother, Muhammad Amaad, 26, arrived at Manchester Airport to pick up their mother from a flight. Amaaz headbutted Mr Ismaeil following a confrontation at a Starbucks inside the terminal.
The Car Park Fracas: Responding police officers located the brothers at a Terminal 2 car park pay station. CCTV played to jurors captured Amaaz delivering 10 punches, two elbow strikes and a kick, while his brother threw six punches. The defendants maintained throughout that they acted in self-defence.
Viral Video & Protests: Footage showing Amaaz being kicked in the head and apparently stamped on by an armed officer went viral online, sparking public protests. Subsequent CCTV released by the Manchester Evening News later showed police officers coming under violent attack immediately beforehand.

Brothers Cleared of Separate ABH Charge
Both Amaaz and his brother, Muhammad Amaad, were officially cleared of a separate charge of assaulting an armed police officer, PC Zachary Marsden, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
Two separate trial juries failed to reach verdicts on this specific count. Following the second deadlocked jury last month, prosecutors announced they would not seek a third trial, bringing an end to those specific proceedings.
